CERTIFIED ARBORIST: WHY YOU SHOULDN’T SETTLE FOR LESS

November 28, 2017

To become a Certified Arborist (CA), one has to complete an extensive list of requirements that involve education, training, and practical experience. Like any other professional, this distinction is not given out without ensuring that qualifications are met. Read on to discover what this qualification means for Tampa consumers.

ISA CERTIFICATION: WHAT IT MEANS FOR CONSUMERS

The ISA (International Society of Arboriculture) is the leading governing body for certifying arbor related professionals. To become an ISA Certified Arborist, one must pass their certification exam. While it is not a requirement, most CA’s in Tampa have their Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, such as forestry, horticulture, botany, arboriculture, or a similar degree of study. Knowledge and education are the baseline requirements for excelling at arbor care, but the true test of a professional stems from their hands-on experience. To take the ISA’s exam, one must have three years’ worth of professional experience. In fact, the exam itself covers a lot of ground, including soil management, tree identification, installation, safe work practices, biology, pruning, diagnosis/treatment, urban forestry, protection and preservation, and tree risk management.

EXPERTISE

By choosing an arbor care professional who is certified, you are choosing someone with expertise. In fact, their certification tests their knowledge; the Florida chapter of the ISA’s master tree list has almost 200 unique species on it that require identification. Of course, CA’s are an excellent source of information for consumers, and they know the ins and outs of hundreds of species in order to promote growth and health.

EXPERIENCE

However, to take the exam, an individual must have three years of experience on the job (two years if they have an Associate’s Degree, and one with a Bachelor’s Degree). This means they have experienced a professional atmosphere and setting relevant to their job. Also, to receive certification, arbor professionals must also agree to abide by a strict code of ethics. Consumers in Tampa can trust an ISA Certified Arborist knowing that they have agreed to be honest, truthful, and safe.
